An exhibition exploring the evolution of Viennese design from the Biedermeier period to the end of the 19th century. Through a selection of artworks, furniture, and decorative objects, the exhibition highlights how the tastes and lifestyles of the Viennese bourgeoisie influenced applied arts and design. The Biedermeier period (1815-1848) is characterized by an aesthetic that emphasizes simplicity, functionality, and domestic intimacy. This style reflected the values of the emerging middle class, focusing on comfortable interiors and a sober yet elegant design. As the fin de siècle approached, Vienna became a hub of artistic innovation, giving rise to movements like the Vienna Secession, which sought to break away from academic traditions and embrace new forms of expression. The exhibition offers an overview of this transitional period, showcasing how Viennese design evolved while maintaining a balance between tradition and modernity.
