The fragile sculptures of Hana El-Sagini

The fragile sculptures of Hana El-Sagini
#Art

A large installation centered on the theme of the instability and fragility of the human experience is at the center of this important exhibition by the Egyptian multidisciplinary artist Hana El-Sagini. El-Sagini works with painting, installation and sculpture exploring themes of memory, trauma and loss through the glorification of everyday stories, spaces and objects. This exhibition at 421 Gallery in Abu Dhabi features over 200 fantastical objects made from ceramic, culminating in surreal sculptures and structures that replicate and imagine healthcare spaces, such as medical waiting rooms, hospital corridors and doctor's offices. Spaces typically perceived as sterile and stoic domains that are transformed in El-Sagini's works into dreamlike, bizarre, disturbing and funny places. Provocative and elusive, the exhibition pushes us to stop and contemplate the intrinsic mechanisms of the human mind that allow us to endure pain, trauma, fear and adversity and encourages viewers to find joy and humor in imagining reality and to overcome and internalize trauma and pain.
