Alvar Aalto: women, architecture, matter
#Exhibitions

In Alvar Aalto's approach, architecture must be made for people. This was the unshakable faith that inspired the work of the Finnish Master throughout his career. The story of the exhibition mixes different levels, passing through the various phases of the architect's life and the figures who accompanied him along the way. Like Aino, Alvar's first wife, also an architect, alongside him in the crucial moment of identifying the Studio's design philosophy: it is together with Aino that Alvar Aalto identified an approach to design centered on the human being. Then in 1952 Alvar married Elissa, the source of a new and fruitful period of creative collaboration, characterized by levels of international openness. Life mixes with the research conducted by Studio Aalto beyond architecture, namely the work with glass, with fabrics, with lights, with children's furniture and with the pioneering design company Artek, a conceived to wisely exploit the vast potential of mass production in the furniture sector. A wide-ranging story that conveys the complexity of a great figure of international architecture.
