The 2026 TCS London Marathon will take place on Sunday 26 April, confirming its place as a benchmark event in the global road running scene. Part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, the London Marathon has been a favourite among professional athletes and amateurs around the world for over four decades. The 2026 edition has already broken a record before it even started, with over 1.133.000 people having applied to take part through the official lottery. This is the highest number ever recorded for a marathon, demonstrating the event’s growing appeal. However, as is tradition, actual participation will be far fewer: between 50.000 and 60.000 runners are expected to obtain a bib and take part in the race, making selection extremely competitive. The London Marathon route is famous for its beauty and smoothness: it starts in Greenwich Park and passes through symbolic places of the British capital, such as the Tower Bridge and the Thames, to end on The Mall, in front of Buckingham Palace. The race is also a huge fundraising platform for charity, with more than a billion pounds raised in its previous editions. For professionals, it is a key event in the international calendar, often the scene of record times. For amateurs, it is a unique experience, full of emotion, with a choral participation that unites athletes in costume, solidarity relays and runners from all over the world. Its fame is linked to this perfect balance between elite and popular participation, between competition and collective celebration. The London Marathon is not just a race: it is a global event that every year transforms the streets of the city into a stage of sport, solidarity and passion. The 2026 edition promises to be one of the most participated and followed ever.
