Yves Saint Laurent loved the world of entertainment, perhaps because it was there that he could give shape to his most creative imagination. It was a love that began at a young age, when he was still a child and had attended a performance of Molière. On that occasion, the spark ignited and the budding designer was swept away by the magic of the theater, thanks to the enchanting costumes and sets designed by the painter Christian Bérard, who remained a source of inspiration throughout his life. It was the choreographer Roland Petit who discovered Yves Saint Laurent's artistic talent and commissioned him to design the first costumes for the ballet Cyrano de Bergerac in 1959 and then, in the two years that followed, for eight other ballets. Yves became a great friend of Roland Petit’s wife, the dancer Zizi Jeanmaire, who walked the designer’s runways many times, with unforgettable creations such as the “Mon truc en plumes” from 1961. The exhibition brings to light a lesser-known, but equally powerful, side of Yves Saint Laurent.
