Men and animals. Relationships with others for TCAA award winners

The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo hosts two new exhibitions created by artists Saeborg and Michiko Tsuda, winners of the fourth edition of the Tokyo Contemporary Art Award. This is an award, established by the City of Tokyo and Tokyo Arts and Space in 2018, which is aimed at "mid-career" artists and which consists of multi-year support that culminates in the presentation of an exhibition open to the public. Although the two exhibitions which open at the end of March are profoundly different from each other in terms of themes and creative approach, they have one thing in common. In fact, both exhibitions foresee that the actions of the spectators in the galleries become an integral part of the artist's work. Metaphor of an imperfect cyborg, Seaborg creates body masks in latex, extensions of the skin that allow her to take on the role of the most "vile" creatures of the ecosystem - caricatural bodies in the shape of pigs or insects - and give life to playful dystopias. Michiko Tsuda is a contemporary Japanese artist who explores the nature and politics of visual representation, and who studies the impact that images have on viewers.
