The last American Dream

The last American Dream
#Art

Nick Doyle is an artist keenly aware of the legacy of the American notion of “Manifest Destiny.” Known for his mural sculptures made with denim collage, Doyle uses the mythology and metaphor of the “on the road” trip to question a pillar of American national identity: extreme individualism. Nostalgia for the American Way of Life therefore becomes an opportunity to re-discuss our relationship with a society where everything is a product packaged for immediate, instantaneous, selfish consumption. The images that Doyle evokes take shape through his mechanical miniatures, small theatrical sets, satirical works made of denim canvas. Apparently harmless images that populate a universal imagination made up of vending machines, typewriters, cigarette packs and which tell the story of a cultural colonialism that today seems to pervade the entire world. An eternal "blues" which is also a profound political criticism of contemporary life and of the visual culture that influences global commercial systems.
