The collections of the Roman Barberini and Borghese families in dialogue
#Exhibitions

There are those who come to Rome to admire some absolute masterpieces up close, such as the famous Portrait of a Young Woman with a Unicorn by Raphael or Sacred Love and Profane Love by Titian. The worst thing that can happen is that during the period of the stay some art places are not accessible due to restoration work. This is what would have happened today to anyone who wanted to visit the Galleria Borghese, if an unprecedented collaboration had not been put in place between the Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica and the famous Roman museum to allow the public to continue to enjoy the heritage preserved at the first floor of the Galleria Borghese also during the ambitious renovation and protection project. The initiative proved to be a unique and unmissable opportunity to bring together two collections that share the same origin, linked to two crucial figures of seventeenth-century Roman political and cultural life: Maffeo Barberini and Scipione Borghese, in an ideal historical and cultural proximity, and last but not least, also geographical. Absolute masterpieces, such as the Portrait of a Man by Antonello da Messina, the Madonna and Child by Giovanni Bellini, the Madonna with Child, Saint John and Angels by Sandro Botticelli, Susanna and the Elders by Peter Paul Rubens, the Sermon of the Baptist by Paolo Veronese, just to name a few, will thus continue to be admired by the public in the Museum in Via Quattro Fontane.
