This exhibition is part of the Spotlight on Konoshima Okoku series, presenting the entire Folding Screens of the Four Seasons series, created by Konoshima Ōkoku for the Sumitomo family residence in Osaka in the early 20th century. Konoshima Ōkoku (1877 - 1938) was a master of modern Japanese painting, best known for his animal paintings, which have gained an increasingly wide audience in recent years. The exhibition highlights the distinctive characteristics of his style, with a special focus on his figure paintings. His sketchbooks will also be displayed alongside the finished works they gave rise to. In addition, the exhibition will include works restored through the grant program of the Sumitomo Foundation for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, offering an interesting perspective on cutting-edge restoration techniques.
