A body can be fragile and monumental, seductive and unsettling, familiar yet mysterious. These are the contradictions explored by Luigi Murenu and Iango Henzi, known as Luigi & Iango, the acclaimed photographic duo whose visual language emerged from fashion but has moved far beyond its boundaries. The Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome presents Corpi speciali: over one hundred photographs, including iconic images and previously unseen works. Contemporary cultural figures, performers, dancers and international stars appear before their lens, but celebrity is not the true subject. What fascinates the two photographers is the body as a place where identities, desires and vulnerabilities are constantly transformed.
Curated by Francesca Alfano Miglietti, the exhibition unfolds like a human atlas of the present. Light and shadow isolate faces, gestures and anatomies; bodies are exalted, fragmented or suspended, challenging the idea of a fixed identity. Photography thus becomes a tool for questioning our need to appear and to be seen. Behind the perfection of the image lies a deeper question: how much of what we show truly reflects who we are?
