A quarter-century after the debut that catapulted him onto the world stage, Alejandro G. Iñárritu returns to the origins of Amores Perros with Sueño Perro, an immersive installation merging cinema and visual art, now on view at Fondazione Prada in Milan. The exhibition draws on never-before-seen footage long archived at UNAM, revealing raw, powerful fragments originally cut from the final edit. Through the tactile poetry of 35mm film - its grain, flicker, and warmth - Iñárritu transforms discarded celluloid into a visceral, multisensory experience. This is not a nostalgic tribute but a resurrection: a journey through images charged with emotion, capturing the fractured realities of late-90s Mexico City. On the upper floor, writer Juan Villoro presents Mexico 2000: The Moment that Exploded, a parallel narrative exploring the social, political, and cultural tensions that shaped the film’s interwoven stories. Sueño Perro becomes both an act of memory and a mirror to the present - where the past, still unsettled, demands to be seen and felt anew.
