The 24th International Exhibition at Triennale Milano, titled Inequalities, unfolds as a multifaceted exploratory journey through the disparities that shape modern societies. Spread across six thematic pavilions, the exhibition includes ten shows, eight special projects, and twenty international participations, supported by institutions from Milan to Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam.
Cities offers a collective reflection on how wealth and poverty mold urban environments, weaving together ecologies, communities, and social frameworks in unexpected ways. We the Bacteria, curated by Beatriz Colomina and Mark Wigley, shifts focus to bacteria as co-creators in the biotic construction of buildings - an exploration of both ancient and contemporary biocentrism. In A Journey into Biodiversity, curated by Telmo Pievani, biodiversity becomes a critical lens to examine deep inequalities across time and space. Alongside it, The Republic of Longevity examines the social implications of demographic aging, while Shapes of Inequalities by Federica Fragapane delves into raw disparities through ten data visualizations that transform statistics into organic, storytelling forms. Rounding out the mosaic are The Space of Inequalities, an introduction by Politecnico di Milano on mobility and citizenship, and Towards a More Equal Future, curated by the Norman Foster Foundation, which addresses the housing crisis in emergency contexts. Finally, Radio Ballads, a project by Serpentine, interweaves spoken testimonies on mental health, illness, grief, and social justice. Together, these proposals form a rich tapestry of narratives - scientific, urban, sonic, visual - offering a collective account that confronts inequality as both a structural condition and a lived experience. It is a shared exhibition that urges us to rethink our perspective on a world where disparity is not distant, but a pressing and pervasive reality.
