With New Directions, a title inspired by John Coltrane’s landmark 1963 album and conceived as a clear statement of intent, miart enters a phase of profound transformation. An international fair dedicated to modern and contemporary art, miart has long been one of the key events on the European cultural calendar, serving as a meeting point for galleries, collectors, curators, and institutions. The 2026 edition opens in a new venue: the South Wing of Allianz MiCo in Milan, a contemporary architectural space overlooking the CityLife Park. Conceived as a fluid environment, it sets the rhythm of the fair and its artworks, fostering an open dialogue with the city. Across three levels, miart unfolds through its core sections. Established brings together the languages of contemporary practice and twentieth-century works, with a focused presence of collectible and authorial design. Alongside it, Established Anthology marks the fair’s thirtieth edition with a curated selection that reflects on time - its layers, trajectories, and transformations - through a balanced dialogue between modern and contemporary expressions. On the intermediate level, Emergent is dedicated to galleries working with experimental and emerging artists, emphasizing research-driven and installation-based projects. Among the new initiatives, Movements: Moving Images, developed in collaboration with the St. Moritz Art Film Festival, explores time-based works in resonance with the fair’s musical inspiration, inviting visitors into an immersive experience shaped by rhythm, duration, and reflection. Following the strong attendance recorded in 2025, which confirmed miart’s growing international appeal, the 2026 edition is poised to build on this success - offering an even more ambitious platform and reinforcing Milan’s role on the global map of contemporary art.
A new project brings William Kentridge and Giorgio Morandi into conversation through video, sculpture and reflections on time and memory.
